Helen Kastl was born October 26, 1919 in Spencer, Oklahoma to Frank Joseph Vrana and Katherin Mary Hrdina and passed away December 23, 2011. She had five sisters, Mary, Emily, Angela, Edna and Lily Anne and one brother, Frank. She graduated from St. Joseph's high school in Oklahoma City, attended Benedictine Heights in Guthrie and Monte Casino in Tulsa. She graduated from Edmond Central State College with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She began her teaching career at Carson District 25, a one room country school for grades 1 through 8, located at Hefner and Portland. She also taught in Harrah and Moore schools and valued education for people of all ages. She married Frank Kastl on May 26, 1947. She was fun loving and had a good sense of humor. She loved travel, music, dancing and cooking and was an accomplished bridge player. Helen often said her greatest achievement was her children. Her parents, Frank Kastl, her sisters, Mary, Angela and Edna and her brother, Frank, precede her in death. Her five children, David Kastl of Hilton Head, South Carolina, John Kastl of Tacoma, Washington, Steven Kastl of Abilene, Texas, Katherine Walsh of Franklin, Tennessee and Anne Marie Strauss of Calabasas, California survive her as well as her sisters Emily Lightner and Lily Anne Whittaker of Oklahoma City. Helen has 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A wake service will be held at Yanda & Son Funeral Home of Yukon on Wednesday, December 28, at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Yukon, December 29, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond, OK.
