Betty "Aunt Zoe" Divis went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at the age of 100. She was born April 30, 1911, in a dug-out log cabin near Velma, Oklahoma. Betty spent her early life in Duncan, Oklahoma and after graduating from High School, she attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha.
Betty Zoe Divis lived an interesting and diverse life. She worked as a skating "car hop" and "Dr. Pepper Girl." She also worked as a pharmacy tech for Veasey Drug Company. Before WWII she went to work for MacDonald-Douglas Aircraft Co. (now Tinker). During the war, she worked many double shifts in the aircraft plant for the war effort. She retired from Tinker with over 30 years of service.
After retiring from Tinker, she started a new career along with her husband, Ernie Divis. Together they built "Ernie's Palace" on 5 acres south of Interstate 40 on Banner Road. The "Palace" had a maple wood floating dance floor and music for dancing was provided by Ernie's dance band along with guest musicians and professional performers. Betty continued to operate the "Palace" for over 35 years even after Ernie died in 1989. She finally retired again at age 96 and continued to live a meaningful life with the help of her niece, Karen Kay Morgan, during the past 10 years. She lived at home by herself until five days before her death.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Ernie Divis; her parents, T.J. Nichols and Alice E. Grissom-Nichols, two brothers and one sister. She is survived by her niece, Karen Kay Morgan and husband Wendell Morgan; nephews Ted Nichols and wife Marjorie and family, Terry Nichols and wife Dot and family; great-nephews and nieces Kent Morgan, his wife Traci and son Jack; Lisa Musgrove and daughter Peyton; also, her dog "Sam". She had many good friends and neighbors, especially Ruth and Carl King.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Yanda & Son Funeral Home in Yukon. Rev. Charles Womack of the Bethany First Baptist Church will officiate.
