Donald Eugene Smith Minimize

Don Smith was the first son born to Graham and Helen Smith, on July 20, 1943.  He was called home by our Lord on January 28, 2012 at the age of 68, following a courageous five and a half year fight against lymphoma.
Don grew up in Yukon and never lost his love and respect for his parents, teachers, friends and church who helped him to grow, learn and have fun.
During his pursuit of college degrees, he began a family life with marriage to Judy McClure and daughter Christine.  While Judy taught school, Don also worked at Western Electric and AT&T.  Their family grew to include Stephanie, Shawn and Shane.  The lived in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Jersey and Colorado, but unfortunately, after many years, this marriage ended.
Tragically, Judy died in a car accident in 1989.  She had taught most recently at Yukon High School.  Don was remarried to Dianna, and their children began the difficult adjustment in Alabama.  Don and Dianna worked for Bell South until retirement.  They then started a successful international management consulting business.
Don loved boating, fishing, travel, beaches, Alabama and Oklahoma football, socializing with friends, car races, cookouts, reading, learning and his church families.  But most of all, he loved his family with all his heart, doing everything he could to assure their survival and happiness.  The family held onto love, faith, hope, prayer, positive goals, and gratitude.
God led the way, and unexpected times of joy were the rains that brought forth meaning beyond measure, and everlasting love, and these continue.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; uncle, Charles Edward Smith; aunt, Hazel Smith McGranahan; uncle, Carl Elam; and aunt Josephine Elam.
Don's love and example are now the legacy he leaves to his wife, Dianna; children, Christine and husband Michael and grandchildren Victoria and Michelle and Matthew, Stephanie and granddaughter Katie, Shawn, Shane, Lori and husband Jamie and grandchildren Jackson and Hudson and Cason, Laci and grandchildren, Avery and Abby; brother, Dennis Smith of Yukon; and the Bonita Stewart family.
Special love, gratitude, and well wishes go out to Don's friends he has not forgotten.
May we all know the love, comfort, and daily blessings of Almighty God as we walk with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Following services in Alabama, services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 3, 2012 in the Yanda & Son Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow at Yukon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Don requested donations be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org).
