Brenda Lou Free

Brenda Lou Free, age 73, of Yukon, Oklahoma, passed away on February 10, 2026. She was born July 10, 1952, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to David and Lucille Flatt.

Brenda grew up in a racing family alongside her brother, David Flatt Jr., and her sister, Sharon Flatt McNish. Her father and both siblings raced cars, and the family spent countless hours together at the racetrack. Racing was woven into their childhood and became a lifelong passion.  Brenda began racing herself at just four years old in car number 22, affectionately known as the "Sweetie Pie Special."

Her love story with her husband, Ed, also began at the racetrack. Ed first saw Brenda at State Fair Speedway when she was 13, and they began dating when she was 15. That young romance grew into a devoted marriage that lasted 57 years, a partnership marked by loyalty, commitment, and deep love.

She graduated from Northwest Classen High School in 1970. During her junior and senior years, she studied cosmetology and worked as a hairdresser for several years before her children were born.

She and her sister, Sharon, shared a special bond and a passion for racing. Both were devoted fans of NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon and rarely missed a chance to watch him race. Brenda was especially fond of black-and-white check patterns, a small but meaningful reflection of the racing world she loved so much.

Brenda was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who found her greatest joy in caring for her family and celebrating their lives and milestones. Her faith was central to who she was. Brenda loved Jesus and sought to serve others as He did, consistently putting their needs ahead of her own. She was known for her servant's heart, quiet generosity, and willingness to help wherever needed.

She is survived by her husband of over 57 years, Edward Free, Jr., her children Eric Free and wife Jennifer Free, and Jennifer Mackey and husband Bryan Mackey, her grandchildren David and wife Bayley, Caleb, Brennyn, and Brylee, and extended family and friends who will miss her deeply.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Yanda and Son Funeral Home Chapel, 1500 W. Vandament Ave., Yukon, OK 73099. Interment will follow at Yukon Cemetery. Viewing will be held at the funeral home on Monday, February 16th, where the family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
