Carolyn Johanna Yankel

Carolyn J. Yankel was born October 29, 1942, in Macon, GA to Raymond R. and Johanna E. Hess. She died at her home Thursday, October 3, 2024, after a brave battle with cancer. Graduating from Patterson Co-op in Dayton, Ohio, she worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Carolyn was married July 14, 1965, to Eugene J. Yankel. She was a wife and mother to two children, Denise and Gene. After raising her children, she earned her associate's degree as a Paralegal from Sinclair Community College and began working again at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in the JAG office. Upon retiring from Wright Patt, Carolyn was heavily involved in her community doing volunteer work for Wegerzyn Gardens at the 2nd Street Market, and St. Vincent De Paul, where she served at president for five years. She was a member of her church choir at St. Peter Catholic Church, and she loved to play her piano. She was a Master Gardener and could often be found caring for her beautiful home gardens.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Eugene J. Yankel. She is survived by her loving family: daughter Denise C. Y. and Donald L. Heard of Yukon, OK; son Eugene J. Yankel II of South Bend, IN; 5 beloved grandchildren, Darby, Dakota, and Donovan Heard, Eugene J. III (Trey), and McKenna Yankel; brother Raymond C. Hess and wife Nancy Hess of Mission Viejo, CA; brother-in-law Richard (Dick) Yankel of Youngstown, OH; 5 nephews, 2 nieces, and 11 great nephews and nieces and 2 great-great nieces.

Mass of Chistian Burial for Carolyn will be celebrated at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Yukon, Oklahoma on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 10:30 a.m.

A Mass of Remembrance will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church in Huber Heights, Ohio on Monday October 28th, at 10:00am with interment to follow that afternoon at Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio.
