Charles Wayne Owens

Charles Wayne Owens, born on March 10, 1939, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Cecil James and Zelma Pearl Owens, went home to be with the Lord on September 12, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Charles spent his childhood on Gaylords Guernsey Farms, where his father worked as the farm manager. At 17, two years after the loss of his father, Charles made the decision to join the U.S. Air Force. He served his country from January 1958 to August 1961, completing basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. He enjoyed talking about his time stationed in New Bern, North Carolina and Fire Island Air Force Station in Alaska.

Shortly after returning from service, Charles was introduced to Carolyn Cook by his older sister, Mary. A little over a year later, they were married. Their extraordinary marriage would span 61 years. In 1962, Charles began his career at Western Electric as a punch press operator and later became an electronic tester. Over 42 years, he became a respected colleague, known not only for his kindness but also for his exceptional problem-solving skills. He received several awards during his tenure and stayed loyal as the company transitioned from Western Electric to AT&T to Lucent. When the plant eventually closed in 2004, Charles was one of the last 20 employees to walk out the doors.

Charles and Carolyn built a life in the Oklahoma City area, raising their four daughters. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he made a personal commitment to Christ early in adulthood. Even during his final illness, Charles shared his faith with those around him, including his doctors. His final words were a prayer with uplifted hands. A few days later he went home to be with the Lord.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil James and Zelma Owens, and his three siblings, Mary Rohr, Robert Owens, and Bobby Owens.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Carolyn, and their four daughters and their husbands: Shelley and Lowell Dickerson, Carrie and John Boyd, Mona and Mike Harman, and Dana Loving. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Aleya Harman, Erin Upton, Taylor Jennings, Grant Cosgrove, Michael Harman, Shannon Cosgrove, and Madison Cosgrove; three great-grandchildren: Cara Green, Rory June Jennings, and Harrison Upton; two siblings, James Owens and Pam Glover; and his sister-in-law, Sherry Wallace.

Charles was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A public viewing and visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 15, 2024 at the funeral home. In honoring Charles' wishes, private services with the immediate family will be held.
