David Earl Miles

David Earl Miles, 93, of Yukon, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2026. He was born on November 22, 1932 in Blacktown, Pennsylvania. A friend of Bill W., David was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished "Pop Pop" and loyal friend. David was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kennedy Miles; his parents, William Earl Miles and Esther Ivy Miles; his brother, Wendell Leroy Miles; and his granddaughter, Lacey Lauren Kellogg. David is survived by his daughter, Diane Kellogg and husband Mike; his son, David; his son, Douglas and wife Lisa; his brother, William John Miles; his three granddaughters, Shana Goldsmith, Bayle Kellogg, and Ava Miles; and his three great-grandsons, Xavior Goldsmith, Jesse Curry and Miles Moore.

After graduating from Grove City (Pa.) High School in 1950, David served in the United States Army from 1951-54. He was assigned to basic training at Camp Breckenridge (Morganfield, Ky.) before shipping out to Korea on Thanksgiving 1951. During the Korean War, David was in the Seventh Infantry Division for three months before joining the Eighth Army Headquarters Company, where he was sent to the Panmunjon peace talks for six months. He was immensely proud of his military service and loved to regale his children and grandchildren with stories for the remainder of his life.

Following his military discharge, David returned home to Pennsylvania and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Grove City College in 1958. His professional life was spent in the insurance industry, highlighted by a remarkable 34 years at Continental Insurance Company in locations such as New York City, Dallas, Tulsa (Okla.), Little Rock (Ark.), Kansas City (Kan.) and two stints in Oklahoma City. He earned his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation in 1973. The final 17 years of his career were spent among Oklahoma Business Insurers, Union Standard Insurance Company and ECI Insurance Agency, where he retired in 2009 at the age of 77.

David met his wife of 48 years, Mary, at a 1960 Continental Insurance company picnic in Dallas. The pair were married in Dallas in 1962 and raised three children through a variety of work-related moves to locations in Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kansas. The couple settled for good in Yukon (Okla.) in May 1989 and were longtime members of Chisholm Trail Presbyterian Church.

David was an exceptional baseball player and avid sports fan. He cheered on the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team since 1944 and even tried out for the club at age 16. While living in Dallas, he was a season ticketholder of the Dallas Cowboys in the early days of the franchise and remained a fan for life. During his three stints in Oklahoma, David followed the Oklahoma Sooners and later, the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team.

David was a voracious reader of military history, which included books on World War II, the Korean War and the Battle of Little Bighorn. He loved classical music and 1950s-era musicals such as "The Music Man" and "My Fair Lady."

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, April 19, 2026 at Chisholm Trail Presbyterian Church, 801 W. Vandament Ave., Yukon, Oklahoma.
