Dora Andersen

Dora Andersen, age 90, was born May 13, 1936, in Beaver, Oklahoma. She departed this life on Friday, September 18, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Dora was one of nine children born to Benjamin and Marie Vanderpool. She lived in Meade, Kansas, with her family until she married her husband, Don, on September 11, 1954. Dora and Don made their home in Guymon, Oklahoma, for almost 40 years. During that time, she attended Panhandle Bible Center and was active in the community. She worked at the Tiger Den Candy Store at Academy Elementary School, volunteered with the Hospital Auxiliary, and participated in many bowling leagues. She was also well known for her famous cookies, which she meticulously decorated every year and generously gave away to others.

Following Don’s death, Dora moved to Yukon, Oklahoma, to be near her son and his family. While in Yukon, she continued her cookie-baking tradition for neighbors and friends, made scrubbies for everyone she knew, and remained active in church life at Canadian Hills Church of the Nazarene and Mustang Church of the Nazarene.

As her own siblings passed away, Dora became a surrogate mother to many of her nieces and nephews, who loved her dearly.

Her greatest blessings were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her joy in life was serving others. She was well known for spending many hours visiting friends in hospitals and nursing homes. Even as she grew older, she continued to visit friends and family and frequently called her nieces and nephews to check in on them. She will be deeply missed by so many.

Dora was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; her sisters Dorothy McCreight, Louise Haddon, and Ruth Barg; and her brothers Bill Vanderpool, George Vanderpool, Ralph Vanderpool, and Jim Vanderpool.

She is survived by her children, Cliff (Tori) Andersen, Donna (Richard) Walczak, and Garold (Lori) Andersen; her grandchildren, Taylor (Josh) Voth, Jacob Andersen, Kellan (Amanda) Andersen, Rachel Walczak, Elizabeth Walczak, Audrey Walczak, and Reagan Walczak; and her great-grandchildren, Izzy, Dawson, and Marisette Andersen, Harry, Bonnie, and Ellis Voth, and Ava Andersen.

She is also survived by her brother, Otis Vanderpool; sisters-in-law Char (Loren) Taylor and Kay Wolfenden; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Interment will be at Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be scheduled in the spring.
