Doris Ann Sturgill

Doris "Mossie" (Deck) Sturgill, of Yukon, OK, passed away peacefully at Corn Heritage Village in Corn, OK on January 7, 2026, at age 94 and was buried on January 9th, 2026 at Yukon Cemetery.

Doris was born to Minnie and William Deck on November 10, 1931 at her parents' home in Covington, OK. The third of four children, she grew up helping her parents around their farm. She graduated from Covington High School, and on July 19, 1950, she married Hobart Charles Sturgill. She worked as an accountant and, in between accounting jobs, was the director of Mobile Meals in Yukon.

Doris's close friends and family knew that she could almost always be found tending to her garden, pulling weeds, watering, pruning, fertilizing, keeping pests away, and asking for manure for Christmas to keep her wildflowers blooming. In the house, she kept a book in every room and decided what to read based on which room she was in. She was a devoted Christian who loved to read her Bible and revel in the glory of God's gifts, whether outside in her own garden, on trips to the mountains, or in her living room surrounded by children and grandchildren.

Doris is survived by four children, Anna Louise Long (Jim Olsen), David Emmitt Sturgill, Paul Isaac Sturgill, and James Edward Sturgill; four grandchildren, Christopher Parton, Darcie (Homer Scoon) Parton-Scoon, Quay (Bridgette) Parton, and Parker (Rachel) Long; ten great-grandchildren, Randie (Mike), Ashlyn (Jacob), Landis, Veryck, Jayden, Logan, Brady, Trinity, Caroline, and Micco; and one great-great-grandchild, Michael, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She joins now her parents, Minnie and William, her husband, Hobart, and her siblings.

A celebration of Doris's life will be held on May 10th, 2026. Further details will be announced.
