Dwight Dale Haley

Dwight Dale Haley of Delphos, Kansas, passed away February 18, 2025, at the age of 80 in Yukon, Canadian County, Oklahoma. He was born on February 23, 1944, in Concordia, Kansas. He was the son of Dale and Mabel (Marler) Haley. Dwight was the oldest of two children, with a younger brother, Paul Linden Haley. He also had two foster siblings: the late Patricia Hinson and Bob Paige. He spent his childhood assisting his dad in the grocery store and working on the family farm. He was also an avid hunter and occasionally skipped school to hunt pheasant, ducks, and quail with his buddies.

He attended the little Baptist church in Minneapolis, Kansas. It was there that he received the Lord as his Savior. He was baptized as an adult in Longmont, Colorado.

Dwight served our country in the National Guard from 1965 to 1971.

On November 5, 1966, Dwight married Helen Margaret Hazlett at the First Baptist Church in Norton, Kansas. To this union, three children were born: Debra Ann (Debbie), Shelly Ann, and Nathan Dwight. Dwight and Helen made their home in Bennington, Kansas. During this time, he graduated from biomedical electronics school with an associate's degree.

In the summer of 1978, the family relocated to Hays, Kansas, where they lived until 2000, at which time they moved to Monahans, Texas. They lived in their beloved fifth-wheel trailer for ten years. While living in Monahans, Dwight and Helen enjoyed riding their bikes in the desert. Dwight also became an avid backpacker, often packing in the Guadalupe Mountains of West Texas. His high point was hiking rim to rim across the Grand Canyon with his son-in-law, Darrell Kelly, and his grandson, Jaden Kelly.

Dwight retired on April 4, 2011, and moved to Yukon, Oklahoma, where he played various musical instruments with Roy Price and many other friends, as well as doing life with his dear neighbor, Jim Reeder.

Dwight is preceded in death by his parents; his foster sister, Patricia Hinson; his nephew, Tony Hinson; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Survivors include his wife, Helen of Yukon, Oklahoma; his children, Debbie Linder and husband Tom of Hope, Kansas, Shelly Kelly and husband Darrell of Houston, Texas, and Nathan Haley and wife Layla of Jupiter, Florida; his brother, Paul Haley and wife Barbara of Delphos, Kansas; his nephews, Rodney Haley and wife Vickie of Delphos, Kansas, and Steven Haley and wife Erika of Waynesville, Missouri; his brother-in-law, Gary Hinson of Great Bend, Kansas; and his nephew and niece, Greg and Tammy Hinson of Great Bend, Kansas.

Surviving grandchildren are Lacy Smith, Christian Quick, Jaden Kelly, Ashlin Kelly, Caleb Haley, Erica Linder, Emma Haley, Callie Jo Linder, Angie Linder, Mindy Linder, and Paige Linder.

Surviving great-grandchildren are Kelsie Smith, Thaddeus Smith, and Coraline Smith.

A memorial service to honor his memory will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 18, 2025 at Liberty Church in Yukon, Oklahoma.
