She was baptized into the Christian faith at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Granite, Oklahoma on April 9, 1922, and later Confirmed her faith on April 14, 1935.

Emma grew up on the family farm south of Granite. She attended Liberty School and graduated on May 10, 1940. She was the Salutatorian and Secretary-Treasurer of her graduating class. Then she became a cook at the Mountain View school cafeteria and worked there for 21 years. During her life, she remained active in church and community. She loved to cook for people, surprising them with homemade cinnamon rolls and desserts, she also loved to lead Bible Studies, sew and quilt.
