Fenton Russell Ramey

It came as no surprise to the family to find he had penned his own obituary.  In true Fenton Fashion, he wanted to choose the words that would be said. However, what was left unsaid is that his influence will be felt forever throughout the community by the many lives he touched.  As his family, we were most fortunate because our lives were molded by this man with each passing day. His legacy extends at least two generations with children and grandchildren that have pursued law careers. He never missed an opportunity to ask you a question about your own life as his focus was always outward, never on himself.  He found great joy in his family and coffee shop friends.  He has left a space that can never be filled, yet we are full because we knew him. We love him dearly.

"Born on Mother's Day to Wenona Bass Ramey and Hardin S. Ramey, and a lifetime resident of Yukon, I lettered in football, basketball, track, baseball, played the trumpet in band and participated in debate and speech in high school.

I grew up in the grocery and mercantile business.  I graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1957, the University of Oklahoma Law School in 1959 and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta.  I served in the United States Air Force as a 1st Lieutenant and OSI agent.

I hung out a shingle to practice law in Yukon and served as Assistant County Attorney for Canadian County.  I was a District Judge for Canadian and Oklahoma Counties; a member of the Board of Governors and the Board of Bar Examiners of the Oklahoma Bar Association; a member of the Oklahoma Crime Commission; Adjunct Professor at Oklahoma City University School of Law and Redlands Jr. College; and served as City Attorney for the cities of Yukon, Mustang and Piedmont.

I farmed, raised chickens, pigeons, ducks, rabbits, bees, cattle, horses, and raced quarter and thoroughbred horses.  I won money roping steers.

I practiced law for 61 years.

I took my wife on a motorcycle trip to Colorado and toured with the Oklahoma Bicycle Society.

I am survived by my beautiful and loving wife of 48 years, Linda; daughter Diane Medley (Daniel); son Hardin Ramey (Betsy); son Cole Ramey; eight (8) grandchildren; stepdaughters Lynne Hill; Tammye Kuntz (Philip); Gerri Pratt (Rich Edmonds); their children and grandchildren; and brother George H. Ramey (Cheryl) and family.

I was preceded in death by parents and grandparents."

Per his request, there will be no service.  The family has chosen to honor his memory by establishing a scholarship fund.  Memorial gifts may be made in his name to support a scholarship in the College of Law payable to the OU Foundation, 100 W. Timberdell Road, Norman, Oklahoma 73019.
