Gary Clark Coker

Gary Clark Coker, 80, passed away on June 27, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Gary was born on April 1, 1946, in Coffeyville, Kansas. He grew up in Caney, Kansas, where he attended Caney High School and graduated with the Class of 1964.

In January 1965, Gary proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He honorably served his country, completing two tours of duty in Vietnam.

In 1972, Gary moved to Oklahoma City, where he began working in land excavation. It was there that he met the love of his life, Doris. They were married on April 13, 1974, and made their home in Yukon, Oklahoma, where they built a life together.

Throughout his career, Gary worked in a variety of roles, including at Dayton Tire, as an over-the-road truck driver, as a business agent for the Teamsters for eight years, and later as a driver for Yellow Freight until his retirement. He was a dedicated member of the Teamsters throughout his career and was also a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA).

Gary had a passion for motorcycles, fast cars—especially Corvettes—and the outdoors. One of his greatest joys was big game hunting with his two sons, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Coker and Wilma Lee Northweather; his sisters, Carole Lee and Cathy DePriest; and his beloved wife, Doris Coker.

He is survived by his sons, Gary "Scooter" Coker and Brad Baker, as well as many dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Gary will be remembered for his love of family, his dedication to his country and profession, his adventurous spirit, and the lasting friendships he made throughout his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma.
