Janet Mozelle Jones

Janet Mozelle Jones, 82, of Yukon, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 26, 2024. Born on August 27, 1941, to Jess and Mozelle Sodowsky in Blackwell, Oklahoma, Janet's early years were shaped by her time in Ponca City, where she frequently visited her grandparents and helped on the family farm. Her kindness and dedication began early; as a high school student in Ponca City, she volunteered as a candy striper at the local hospital.

After graduating in 1959, Janet pursued nursing at Oklahoma State University but soon moved to Oklahoma City. It was there that she met Richard L. Jones, her future husband. Together, they built a life filled with love, adventure, and shared passions. Janet enjoyed a successful career at The Hartford Insurance, where she retired as a leader of the accounting department.

Janet, the eldest of five siblings, was known for her nurturing spirit. She delighted in adventurous escapades with her four younger brothers—Jimmie Lee, Timothy Boyd, Jess Jr., and Richard "Ricky" Marion Sodowsky. Her mischievous side often led her to take them on memorable trips, whether it was to the local 'Pig' or sneaking them into drive-in movies in the trunk of her father's 1949 Plymouth. Her bond with her siblings was a cornerstone of her life.

Married to Richard "Dick" L. Jones on September 29, 1962, Janet and Dick shared a love for travel and flying. They were blessed with a daughter, Sonja Kay, born on September 6, 1963. Janet's life revolved around her family. She was a devoted caretaker, known for her authenticity, independence, and generous spirit. Her elegance and intelligence were matched by her resilience and deep pride in those she loved.

Janet's interests included shopping for antiques, playing bingo and other games, and enjoying cooking shows. Her life was enriched by the time spent with family and friends, which she cherished deeply.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband Richard L. Jones; her parents, Jess and Mozelle Sodowsky; her brother Jess Sodowsky Jr.; and her son-in-law, Thomas Daune Hall. She is survived by her daughter, Sonja Kay Hall of Yukon; her granddaughter Whitney Pendleton and her husband Blake of Oklahoma City; her grandson Thomas Duane Hall Jr. and his wife Kaleigh of Yukon; her great-grandchildren, Hayden Hall and Copper Pendleton; her three brothers, Jimmie Sodowsky of Ponca City, Timothy Sodowsky and his wife Robin of Wichita, and Ricky Sodowsky and his wife Donna of Norman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A celebration of life honoring Janet will be held on September 17, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Yanda & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Yukon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an organization Janet felt strongly about.

Janet Mozelle Jones will be remembered for her boundless love, her zest for life, and her unwavering commitment to those she held dear. Her legacy of warmth and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew her.
