Jimmie Lee Odle

Jimmie "Jim" Odle was born in Yukon, Oklahoma on March 12, 1940 to Jake and Hazel Odle. After a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia, Jim passed peacefully on June 25, 2024 at Avalon Memory Care in Garland, Texas.

Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Yanda and Son Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be immediately following the ceremony at the Yukon Cemetery.

Jim is survived by his partner Linda Walton of Mobile, AL; daughters Tamara Keller (Rob) of McKinney, TX, Cindy Campman (Layne) of Rockwall, TX and stepson Ron Smith of Hunter, OK; grandchildren Blake Keller, Savannah Keller, Dylan Campman (Kimberly) and Sadie Campman, all in Texas; and sister Carol Sue Dickerson (Don) of Yukon, OK.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Hazel Odle; his brothers Paul, Orville (Buddy) and Joe Odle, beloved daughter Lisa Joy Odle and honorary grandson Kyler Matthew Scott.

Jim was a one of a kind character with a big heart and a big personality. He was born and raised in Yukon, OK and then joined the United States Air Force in 1957 where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. In 1962, he married Peggy Bockmon Smith and together they raised their children in Enid, OK. Jim was a hard worker starting as a kid shining shoes outside the Yukon IGA. Over the years he managed stores, delivered milk, sold cigars and finally landed in Insurance Sales. He won many awards and promotions with Banker's Life and Casualty where he became the Regional Manager in Enid. In 1984, Jim made a lifestyle change and relocated to Houston, TX and then later settled in Mobile, AL. Here he sold insurance, sold cars and then became a long-haul truck driver. He was still working at the age of 78 driving cars for an auto auction house when he finally retired.

Jim had a love for the outdoors and spent weekends and vacations camping at various lakes and enjoying the Alabama beaches. He instilled a love of travel, camping, boating, fishing and adventure into his daughters and grandchildren. He often road-tripped to Texas where he made sure to cheer on each grandchild as they played in their respective sports. Then he would drive up to Oklahoma to visit friends and relatives there. Family was very important to him.

Jim was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and was very proud of his many years of sobriety. In his final years, he suffered with Lewy Body Dementia and moved to Texas to be closer to his daughters. At Avalon Memory Care, he was loved and very well taken care of. He would dance with all the ladies during music therapy and knew how to sweet talk the aides to get extra dessert, etc. Jim will be remembered as a strong, loving, fun, ornery and caring dad, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and he will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
