Jimmie Don Tabers

Jimmie D. Tabers, born on June 21, 1944, was called home to heaven on May 2, 2023. Jim was a resident of Oklahoma City, OK at the time of his passing. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, his sons and their families, as well as his brother and sister.

Throughout his life, Jim dedicated himself to serving God and higher education, spending over three decades teaching at Southern Nazarene University. He had a distinguished career as a professor and chair of the Computer Science department, where he was an influential mentor and role model for countless students and colleagues.

Jim poured his heart and soul into creating and expanding the Computer Science department, equipping many students for successful careers in the IT industry. He also spearheaded the Adult Studies program at SNU, which helped numerous people seeking to restart their careers. Jim was a natural teacher, always striving to find better ways to aid his students in learning. He viewed teaching as his calling and ministry.

In all that he did, Jim was a devoted husband, loving father, and caring grandfather. He made sure his kids and grandkids always heard the words, "I love you" and modeled it consistently through sacrificial love and devotion. Jim had a contagious laugh that lit up his classroom and always had a joke ready for anyone he came across to brighten their day. He went through life with a smile on his face and joy in his heart, leaving a lasting impact on those around him.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held at Crossings Community Church at 10:00 AM on May 12, 2023. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy lives on through his family and the countless students whose lives he invested in.
