Joan Carol Prentice

Joan Carol Prentice was born July 22, 1940, in Carnegie, Oklahoma to Brian Martin and Geraldine Stephens. She passed away at the age of 82 on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Baptist Village in Oklahoma City.

Joan Carol was raised in the Cowden/Mountain View, Oklahoma area, and attended school at Cowden through her junior year of High School. She then attended her senior year at Mountain View and graduated in May 1958. She married Edward Dean Prentice June 14, 1958. They had five children: Stephen Dean Prentice of Norman, Oklahoma; Wendell Ray Prentice and wife Sharon of Madras, Oregon; Michelle LeAnn Evans; Kathleen Renee Fisher of Yukon, Oklahoma; and Brian David Prentice.

Joan Carol was a huge sports fan and played basketball for the Cowden Broncos. She almost never missed watching her kids play their sports. The one time that she did, her son Stephen was injured; she swore she would never miss another game. Her most beloved team was the Oklahoma Sooners, and she would most definitely let you know. When she wasn't watching or attending sporting events, Joan Carol loved to read, sew, cook, talk your ear off, and spend time with her family that she loved so dearly.

Joan Carol was a member of the First Baptist Church. She served as Acteens Director for many years, and even took a group of girls to the National Acteens Conference in Memphis, Tennessee. She was known by many for her talent as a seamstress, from hemming up a pair of pants to making a young girl look absolutely beautiful in her prom dress. She never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anybody. She will be missed by many.

Joan Carol is survived by her sons Stephen Dean Prentice and Wendell Ray Prentice and wife Sharon; daughter Kathleen Renee Fisher; two sisters, Jackie Stolz of Oklahoma City and Debbie Nix and husband Tommy of Carnegie; nine grandchildren, Wendell Prentice, Jr. and wife Carrie; Jonathan Prentice and wife Melanie; Merry Kirkwood and husband Jacob; Andrew Prentice; Jylian Pinnell and husband Brad; Jeremy Prentice and wife Heather; Melisa Seui and husband Roman; Christopher Evans and wife Ashly; and Kayleigh Fisher; 16 great- grandchildren; 8 nieces and nephews; and 12 great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Jerry Martin Stephens; daughter, Michelle LeAnn Evans; infant son, Brian David Prentice; and two sons in law, James Floyd Evans and Barry Brent Fisher.

Celebration of life services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 27, 2023 at the First Baptist Church, 411 Randlett Street, Mountain, View, OK, with interment at the Mountain View Cemetery.
