Joe Edward Oglesby

Joe Edward Oglesby was born December 23, 1943 in Commerce, Texas to Robert and Lucille Oglesby, and passed from this earth on February 24th, 2025. The youngest of 6 kids, he graduated from Commerce high School in 1962. Shortly after he met the love of his life Kay.  Knowing that it was meant to be forever they were married May 25, 1963.  Together they had three children, Marc, Kevin and Joe Paul.  To help provide for his family he joined the Army in 1968.  After serving overseas he returned home to his family in Commerce where he attended and graduated from East Texas State University using the GI Bill.  In February 1977, Joe began his career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a correctional officer in El Reno, Oklahoma.

Upon accepting a job with the Federal Bureau of Prisons he moved his family to Yukon, Oklahoma in 1977.  Joe excelled in his career, receiving numerous awards and was quickly promoted within the BOP system. He retired as the Employee Development Manager with responsibilities that included traveling across the United States training new and veteran BOP officers.

Though he had numerous accolades he was most proud of his family.  If you ever joined him to have an onion burger at Sid's, or a cup of coffee at a local diner, you would hear about all of the accomplishments of his children, their wives, and his grandchildren.  His family knew that he was always in their corner and as long as "Dad", "Pop", or "Papaw" was there there would be someone to love them, fight for them, and give them guidance on what they needed to do. His ornery nature was always evident from playing practical jokes on his wife to coaching his grandkids to say whisky as one of their first words.  His favorite place to be was with his family, and with his golden retrievers, Buddy and Bear.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Doris Jean and Christine, brother Mike, and Grandson Taylor as well as, Buddy, his Golden Retriever.  He is survived by his wife of 61 years Kay, of the home, his brother, Bob, and wife, Tessa, of Dallas, Texas, sister, Ann Julian, and husband, Hoyle, of Klondike, TX. His children Marc and his wife Michelle of St. James, Missouri; Kevin, and wife Lynn, of Weatherford Texas, Joe Paul, and wife, Cheryl, of Edmond.  Grandchildren: Micheal Oglesby, and his wife Becky Jo, Nathan Oglesby, Kayla Caudle, and husband, Wyatt; Madison Oglesby, Abby Evers and husband, Andrew, and Jillian Kumor. As well as three great grandchildren Tucker Oglesby, and Jack and Gabriel Joe Oglesby.

A Memorial Service will be held on March 1st, 2025 at 3:30pm at Mustang Church of the Nazarene, Mustang, OK.
