John Trent

John was born on November 5, 1935 in Twilla , KY in  Coal Camp Housing to Noah and Esther (Brock) Trent. John left his earthly home, September 3, in Yukon, OK.  He was the fifth of 18 children.  He spent his childhood in Wallins Creek, KY.  While in his teens, John was lead to the Lord and spent a lot of his time in the mountains praying for God's blessing to become a preacher.  John started preaching on a street corner in his later teen years.  The crowds were large enough at times to cause traffic problems, he knew then the Lord's Blessing was surely upon him.

John moved to Detroit in the early 50's along with a great many people from Kentucky working at various factories.  He worked for DeSoto, at Tiger Stadium, and he sold Ice Cream on a bicycle. On one of his trips, by Greyhound back to Kentucky, he met the love of his life, Ada McDaniel. She, at that time, was living and working in Dayton, OH.  Ada's family was from Harlan, KY. They married October 22,1960 in Jonesville, VA and together they raised 3 children in NE Illinois, where John worked at Chicago Cutlery, he took a great deal of pride in his work and had a strong work ethic. He loved gardening and sharing his vegetables with family and friends, fishing, raising roses, but most of all cheering for his Kentucky Wildcats, Detroit Lions and Michigan Wolverines.  In 1983 John and Ada along with their youngest, Greg, moved to League City, TX.  John and Ada were both employed there by the School District.

Work called the family back to McHenry, IL and John went back to work for Chicago Cutlery, where he remained until he retired.  After he retired in 2000 the couple set their sites on Southwestern Oklahoma.  Living in Eakly, OK, they worked together at the Hydro School District and John also worked for the Farmer's COOP in Eakly where they made many friends and enjoyed their church and retirement. and in 2013, John's beloved wife, Ada was called home to be with the Lord.  Years later in 2020 as John's health diminished he moved into the home of Greg and Terri.

He leaves behind 5 children, Carolyn Straub, Elizabethtown, KY, Anna Stone and husband Mark, West Palm Springs, FL, Julie Gunn and husband Daryl, Columbus, IN, John D. Trent, Wonderlake, IL and Greg Trent and wife Terri of Tuttle, OK.  He leaves 20 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.  Brothers surviving are Jerry Trent, Michigan, Noah Trent and Donnie Trent, Kentucky, Sisters Joyce Mitchell, Florida, Helena Green, Kentucky, Shirley Head, Michigan, Lois Reinhold, Georgia and  Linda Nash, North Carolina.
Preceding in death are his parents, wife, Ada, grandson Ronnie Williams, Brothers Herb, Frank, Bill, Bob, Ernest, and Tim Trent, Sisters Irene Powers, Netha Brock and Drusilla Rose.

There will be a Celebration of Life, in early October, where the siblings will meet to follow John's wishes to have his ashes spread on the Cumberland Mountains of Kentucky.
