Leta Lois Russell

Leta Lois Russell, age 85, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 4, 2024. She was born on September 28, 1939, in Tehachapi, California, and graduated high school from Delano Union High School in 1957.

Leta worked as an accountant for many years in Oklahoma, and in later years, she worked as the Fabric Department Manager for Walmart in Mustang and then in Bakersfield, California, where she retired while caring for her parents. After returning to Oklahoma, she and Marvin worked at Red Rock Canyon State Park as camp hosts and helpers. She also worked with their friends, James and Sandy Stepp, at their buffalo ranch near Hinton. She loved staying active until the last few years, enjoying sewing, basket weaving, camping, and carpentry. Throughout her life, she loved to sew and made many clothes for her children as they grew up, as well as wedding dresses over the years. She also loved her Lord and remained active in her churches in Hinton, Chisholm Heights Baptist in Mustang, and, more recently, Together We Church (Trinity Baptist) in Yukon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Julian Curtis (Dude) and Bertha Lois Rothell, both of Delano, California; Marvin Russell of Calumet, her husband of 27 years; and her son, Bill Russell of Oklahoma City.

She is survived by her son, Curtis Staggs of Yukon; son Don Staggs and wife Jane of Newcastle; daughter Melonie Calhoun and husband Shannon of Mustang; and sons Keary Russell of Yukon and Dewayne Russell of Newcastle. She also leaves behind grandchildren Tim Staggs of Durant, Shawna Cook of Missouri, Jared Staggs and wife Christy of Texas, Brienna Wade and husband Josh of Missouri, Dawson Calhoun and wife Emily of Yukon, Kaylee Calhoun of Mustang, Cherry Traffenstadt and husband Chris of Missouri, Tania Cheek and husband Mike of Missouri, Laura Glasco and husband Daniel of Newcastle, Raymond Russell and wife Michele of Texas, Debbie Zanola and husband Zach of Oklahoma, Justin Russell of Norman, Rikki Russell, and Amy Jo Russell, as well as 23 great-grandchildren, with three more to be born between now and February 2025, and two great-great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., and Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Yanda & Son Funeral Home, located at 1500 W. Vandament Ave, Yukon, OK 73099. Funeral services will take place at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the same location.
