Lysa Renee Baker

Lysa Baker, born February 1, 1975, in Oklahoma City, peacefully passed away on January 26, 2024. She leaves behind a legacy of dedication to public safety and a life filled with love and service.

Lysa was a proud resident of Yukon, Oklahoma, and spent nearly her entire life in the town she held dear to her heart. Known for her vibrant spirit and infectious laughter, Lysa never knew a stranger, effortlessly brightening the lives of those around her. Lysa's journey in public safety spanned over twenty-five years, marked by notable achievements and contributions. A graduate of Yukon High School in 1993, she later returned to school and earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Central Oklahoma, where she studied Criminal Justice and Communications. Throughout her career, Lysa distinguished herself as a Certified Public Safety Executive, Registered Public Safety Leader, and Emergency Number Professional. Her roles ranged from 9-1-1 Telecommunicator to Instructor, reflecting her diverse expertise and commitment to excellence. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Lysa cherished her role as a mother to her beloved daughter, Kalynn. Family was central to her life, evident in her close bond with her mother, Roxanne, and her sister, Amy, along with their respective families.

In June 2021, Lysa's life took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with lung cancer. Undeterred by the challenges that lay ahead, she faced her illness with unwavering courage and resilience. Throughout her journey, she underwent countless treatments, demonstrating her indomitable spirit and determination to overcome every obstacle in her path. Despite the trials she faced, Lysa continued to find joy in life's simple pleasures and remained a source of laughter and light for those fortunate enough to know her. Her strength, humor, and unwavering positivity left an indelible mark on all who crossed her path, inspiring others to embrace each moment with gratitude and grace. Lysa found joy in simple pleasures, like spending time with her dogs, indulging in hobbies like fishing and bingo, or sharing laughter over board games with loved ones. She was affectionately referred to as "mom" by many of the officers she worked with at the Bethany Police Department, reflecting the warmth and care she extended to those around her. In addition to her family and career, Lysa leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and dedication. While she may have departed this world, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Lysa is preceded in death by her father, J.R. Baker. She is survived by her daughter Kalynn; mother Roxanne; sister Amy Tharp; brother-in-law Stephen; and their children Evan, Ryan, and Abigail.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of Lysa's favorite charities: The Mary Kay Foundation, which raises and distributes funds to invest in breakthrough cancer research to find cures for cancers affecting women and for ending domestic violence against women.

Lysa's memorial service will be held at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Yukon on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 2:00 P.M.
