Marion Dean Sholtess

Marion Dean Sholtess, age 71, a resident of Mustang, Oklahoma, passed away on May 12, 2024. He was born in Enid, Oklahoma January 21, 1953 to Bobby Dean Sholtess and Marion Joann Sholtess (Patzkowski), on his older sister's birthday. He was considered his sister's birthday gift. To financially help his family, Marion started working at the age of 12 at Langsam Pharmacy in the Mayfair Shopping Center. The employer asked for his social security card, which he repeatedly told them he forgot to bring with him. Finally, the pharmacy called his mom who informed them he was underage. Langsam was sad to let him go because he was such a hard worker. When he was 16, he worked as a busboy for the Chandelle Club an saved his money to buy his first car, a 1970 Dodge Swinger. In high school, he joined the Civil Air Patrol, where he learned to fly an airplane. Marion graduated from John Marshall High School in 1971 and was accepted into West Point, but chose to marry the love of his life, Deborah Reed. They were married just two months short of their 50th wedding anniversary upon her death. Marion and Debbie were not blessed with children of their own, but played a pivotal role in the lives of their nieces, Laura and Lorena.

Marion graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix in 2001. He was a CPA and worked for Midland Mortgage Co. as a Senior Collections Advisor, providing counseling to clients to avoid losing their homes. In his spare time, he built models and played countless jokes on his sister, Marqueitta. He attended Christ Lutheran Church and served as an usher and greeter. He will be dearly missed.

Marion is preceded in death by his wife, Deborah Sholtess (Reed) and his parents, Bobby and Joann Sholtess. He is survived by his sister Marqueitta Carroll of Yukon, OK; niece, Laura J. Powell and husband Jim Powell of Yukon, OK; niece Lorena Glaser and husband John Glaser of Albuquerque, NM; great-nieces, Christina, Kaitlynn and husband Matthew, and Lauren; and a great-great nephew, Asher Moore.

A Viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Thursday, May 23, 2024 at the funeral home. The memorial service will be held on Friday, May 24th at the Christ Lutheran Church on 501 N. Clear Springs Rd., Mustang, OK at 10 am, with the interment to follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
