Mary Jo Nixon

Mary Jo Nixon was born in Dilley, TX to J.W. and Pauline Boen.  She grew up in Quail, TX with her two brothers and two sisters. She passed away Sunday, March 5, 2023 in Oklahoma City, OK.

She married her "knight in shining armor" Lowell Nixon in 1959.  The first four years of their marriage, she spent helping him complete his engineering degree at Texas Tech.  After graduation, they moved to Pittsburg, PA for a short time.  They finally settled in the OKC area where she raised the kids and had a career at Tinker Air Force Base.

She retired from Tinker in 2001.  They enjoyed the next six years at Possum Kingdom Lake in Texas.  They loved entertaining, feeding the deer and hummingbirds and lake life. They eventually moved back to Yukon, OK to be near family.  She loved working at Love, Beal & Nixon (Bill's law firm) until January of this year. The people at LBN were like family to granny. She was everyone's honorary granny!

She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and her son, Jeffrey Lynn Nixon.

She is survived by her loving husband, Lowell Nixon and beloved dog, Doodle of Yukon, OK; Bill and Mandy Nixon of Piedmont and their children, Brenna Nixon and Chance Nixon of Norman, OK; Nick and Kim Dyer of Mounds, OK and their children: Robby and Robin Dyer of Coweta, OK; Cindy and Mike Scorsone of Owasso, OK; Steven and Brittany Dyer of Oolagah, OK; Kaydee Dyer of Norman, OK;

Nickolas and Reagan Dyer of Glenpool, OK; Brenner and Gracyn Dyer of Kiefer, OK; Maddie and Jonathan Peterson of Mounds, OK; Susie & Doug Rodzon of Piedmont, OK and their children: Jeff and Lizzy Rodzon of Orlando, FL, and Laynie Rodzon and Leah Rodzon of Orlando, FL.  As you can see Granny had a big family!  She loved boasting on the number of grandchildren she had - 20 Grandkids, 9 Great Grandkids, and countless honorary grandchildren.

The role of granny was one of her favorites second only to that of loving wife and Doodle's mom.  Grandkids loved any time they could get with granny as she did with them.  She will be missed by all who knew her & enjoyed her sassy, spunky, loving personality!

The family will be present for a viewing from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at the funeral home. Viewing will also be held from 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Thursday, March 9. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 9 at the Yanda & Son Funeral Home Chapel, with interment following at Frisco Cemetery, Yukon, OK.
