Phil Eugene Oliphant

Phil Eugene Oliphant, of El Reno, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2024, at the age of 64. Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on August 4, 1960, to parents 'Buzz' and Connie Oliphant, Phil grew up on the family farm in Rowley, Iowa, where they raised corn, pigs, Quarter Horses, Longhorn cattle, and Border Collies. It was on this farm that Phil's lifelong passion for horses began, and he developed a natural gift for working with them. Over the years, he built a legacy of raising, training, and showing Quarter Horses, proudly contributing to the American horse industry.

Phil's love for horses was shared by his wife, Cathy Curtis Oliphant. The two met as teenagers while showing horses, and after thirty years apart, they reconnected at a horse sale. They were married in 2011. Together, Cathy and Phil raised beautiful Quarter Horses, and their horses proudly bore the C-P brand—a lasting tribute to their shared passion.

In addition to his work with horses, Phil made significant contributions to the pork industry in both Iowa and Oklahoma. He served as President of the Oklahoma Pork Council in 2018 and also managed the feeding program at Braum's Dairy Farm for several years, before retiring in 2024.

Phil was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, and watching old westerns and Iowa State football games. His greatest joys, however, came from spending time with his family, particularly making memories with his children and grandchildren.

Phil was a devout Christian and cherished his faith. He was an active member of the West Point Church family, where he found support, love, and fellowship. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6

Phil was preceded in death by his mother, Connie Oliphant, and his son, Jeff Oliphant. He is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Oliphant; father, Dale "Buzz" Oliphant; daughter, Cayla Frerk; step-sons, Landon Botchlet (Kayla) and Reese Botchlet; his sisters, Linda Conti (Lou) and Sandy Nickerson (Glen); his grandchildren, Trevor, Tanner, Carter, Nataley, Lilly, Maddie, Summer, and Sutton Mae; nieces and nephews, Beth, Morgan, Brian, Louie, and Lindsey; nine great-nieces and 3 great-nephews, and his favorite horse Missy.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, November 16, 2024, at West Point Christian Church, 1600 S. Richland Rd, Yukon, OK 73099, with a time of fellowship and food following in the church fellowship hall.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Oliphant Cemetery in Center Point, IA. Following the burial of his remains, please join the family for fellowship at Wolfey's Wapsi Outback, 101 Water Street S., Quasqueton, IA.
