Roy Benton Butterworth, II

Roy Benton Butterworth II passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, at the age of 63. Born on January 24, 1963, Roy lived a life full of laughter, hard work, and love for his family and friends.

Roy was known as the life of the party. He had an outgoing personality, a quick wit, and a remarkable ability to make everyone around him smile. Whether he was telling stories, grilling for family gatherings, cheering on his favorite basketball team, or working on a woodworking project, Roy enjoyed bringing people together and making lasting memories.

Throughout his career, Roy dedicated many years to serving customers and building relationships while working for CompUSA, Target, Sears, and Harbor Freight. His strong work ethic and friendly personality left a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Above all else, Roy treasured his family. He found great happiness in spending time with his fiancée, Janna Hale, and her family, Ashley and Hunter, in Yukon, Oklahoma. He loved his children and grandchildren deeply and was proud of the family he helped build.

Roy is survived by his loving mother, Carol Butterworth of Anna, Texas; his brother, Clint Butterworth of Anna, Texas; his sister, Caroline Palmer, and her husband, Doug Palmer, of San Francisco, California; his sons, Roy Benton Butterworth III of Ponder, Texas, Mike Sportsman, and Nick Sportsman of Van Alstyne, Texas; and his daughter-in-law, Kate Gwartney.

He was a proud grandfather to Preslee Armstrong, Brenley Nobles, Dawson Mitchell, Skyland, and Darby, each of whom brought immense joy to his life.

Roy’s kindness, laughter, generosity, and love for those around him will never be forgotten. His legacy lives on in the memories he created, the lessons he taught, and the love he shared so freely. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, July 16, 2026 at The Well Community Church, 600 FM-407, Argyle, TX 76226.

Flowers may be delivered to the church from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
