Rusty Ann Curtis

On April 3, 1949, in Hennessey, OK., a beautiful baby girl was born to William (Bill) Curtis of Dover and Madalyon (Maddie) Beaman of Hennessey. They named their baby Marilynne Ann Curtis. Because the baby was born with red hair like her grandad, Loren Beaman of Dover, he nicknamed her Rusty. Rusty had two older sisters, Carlynne Sue Cook and Jacquelynne Rae Curtis (Jacquie). Rusty passed away on August 30, 2024 in Mustang, OK.

Bill Curtis was a Military man with the US Air Force, so this family was on the move. First to Minerals Wells, TX., then on to San Antonio, TX. When Rusty was 3, mom and the three girls boarded a ship headed to England for the next three years.  They loved it there but missed their family back home in Dover. After England they were stationed in New York state for a few months then received transfer orders to Yuma, AZ. The family lived there for two years then transferred to Vandenburg Air Force Base in Lompoc, CA. After two years, orders came that they were being transferred to Thule, Greenland for a year, so mother and daughters returned to Dover. They loved being with their big extended family during that time. The year of separation was over, and they were off to Zaragoza, Spain for three years. Rusty was in junior high during this time and involved in everything at school. An outstanding athlete, she played softball, basketball, and ran track. Her hobbies included reading, bowling, and spending time with her school friends. They left Spain in June of 1963 with orders to transfer to Whiteman Air Force Base in MO. Rusty continued to be very active in sports and also became a cheerleader. Rusty's high school years were spent in Puerto Rico where she graduated high school in 1967. Her father retired from the service in 1968 and moved the remaining family to Yukon, OK.

Rusty went to school to become a Master Barber and pursued that career for a few months before deciding to join the United States Navy. She spent the next 6 years serving in Guam and Point McGoo in CA. Upon her honorable discharge from the Navy, she returned to Yukon, and became a U.S. Postal Service rural route carrier for the City of Mustang for 18 years.

Rusty's happy place was going to Junior's and singing at the piano bar while Yuki played the piano. For several years, some great musicians around the Oklahoma City area would get together and produce a night of fine dining and entertainment. Rusty was always invited to participate in this event, and she always left the audience wanting more. She liked all genres of music, but her favorite was Jazz. She also became a very talented pool player and would take her pool stick everywhere she went looking for a competitive game of pool.

Rusty was preceded in death by her mother and father, grandparents, one sister, one niece and one nephew.

She is survived by her sister Jacquie Gammon and husband Ron of Yukon; niece Robin Gammon Steele of Woodard; nephews Chad Gammon and wife Casey of Yukon, and Kirk Yeomans of Yukon; niece Tammy Yeomans and roommate Heidi DeVries of Grand Rapids, MI.; step-brother Leroy Cassel and wife Dianne of Yukon; step-sister Deborah Warren and husband Bruce of the UK; step-brother Don Cassel and wife Jeanette of Yukon, as well as numerous cousins and friends.

Rusty's life will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 12, 2024 at the Town and Country Christian Church, 2200 S. Cornwell Yukon, OK.
