Scott Dwaine Sutterfield

Scott Dwaine Sutterfield was born April 7th, 1967 in Cleveland, OK to Mary Ann Scott and Lee Sutterfield.  Scott passed away at his home unexpectedly on February 23rd, 2023 due to natural causes.  Scott's passing was sudden.  His family and friends were not expecting his life to be cut so short, so soon.  We are all devastated by this loss.  He will be forever missed.

He was born with a sweet and kind soul, a heart of gold, and a smile and laugh that was infectious. He was always a joy to be around. Scott was a born athlete, playing football, basketball and baseball throughout his youth.  It was the later, in baseball, which Scott shined the brightest.  His love for the sport was evident by all who saw him play, from the T-ball fields to the high school championship fields.  He was a four-year varsity athlete in baseball with the John Marshall Bears.

Despite his love for baseball, there was one other sport that he loved more, Golf. He began playing at an early age and later as a varsity athlete in high school.  Little did we know what the sport of golf would become?

After graduating from John Marshall High School in 1985, Scott went to work at a local restaurant as a cook.  He hung out and partied with his friends, played softball and a lot of golf, but mostly just enjoyed life after high school.  In 1986, inspired by the movie "Top Gun" Scott and his best friend Charlie Salsman enlisted in the Navy.

Scott served as a Machinist Mate on the U.S.S. Ouellet (FF-1077) a frigate in the U.S. Navy.  Life in the navy wasn't always a party.  In the summer of 1987, Scott and his shipmates took part in Operation Earnest Will, where the U.S. Navy escorted Kuwaiti flagged oil tankers through the Persian Gulf, which had been attacked by the Iranian Navy.  Scott's ship was fired upon multiple times during this operation.

For his actions, Scott received the U.S. Navy/U.S. Coast Guard Special Operations Service Ribbon as well as a Meritorious Unit Commendation.  Scott participated in two additional military campaigns with the U.S. Navy's Third and Seventh Fleet.  Stationed at Pearl Harbor, HI, Scott could not have picked a better duty station.  He always said that it was like being paid to be on vacation.

Scott served a total of four years in active duty service, over three and a half of them at sea.  For his service, Scott received three Sea Service Deployment ribbons, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal along with the before mentioned awards and decorations.  After being discharged from active duty in 1990, Scott remained in Hawaii for three years, serving out two years of Naval Reserve time and most definitely partying it up.  Scott absolutely loved living in Hawaii.

Scott returned home to Oklahoma in 1993, where he took a job with Lucent Technologies.   He worked at Lucent for several years until they closed operations.  He then began working at Tinker Air Force Base as a contractor with Bering Straits Logistics before finally being hired by the Air Force as a civilian employee, for which Scott was over the moon.

Scott was an avid Oklahoma Sooners fan!  He was one of those "crazy" tailgaters outside of Owen Field most every game day.  Scott was an amazing uncle.  He loved summers at the pool and the holidays with his family and especially spending time with his numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and grandchildren, always giving them cold hard cash for Christmas.

Scott also loved to fish.  His mother, grandmother, and both of his father's took him and his siblings fishing all of his life.  Fishing and family was such an important time for Scott.  For over 20 years, Scott, along with his brothers and father, took week-long fishing trips.  It was something that he looked forward to all year.

During his years at Lucent and Tinker, Scott found many life-long friends, and his love for golf became more than just a sport.  In 1999, Scott found the love of his life in Donna.  Together they became avid golfers, so much so that they would plan trips and vacations in order to play some of the best courses around the country.

Scott's surviving family include his partner, Donna Bristow; mother, Mary Ann Lott; father, Lee Sutterfield and his wife Juanita; brothers, Bryan Sutterfield and Jason Lott; sister, Lael Russell and her children, Libby and Landry; brother, Brent Sutterfield and his wife Jaime and their daughter, Marley; sister, Lisa and her husband Jeff and their daughter, Mckenzie and son, Keifer; niece, Summer Teters and husband John and their son, Trae and daughter, Kyleigh; niece, Shayna Walters and husband Cody and their daughter, Taelyn and son, Tyson;  his partner Donna's children and their grandchildren:  Kimberley and Chris, Christopher and Katriese, Jade Watkins, Marcus Williams, Alan Oliver, Jordan Watkins, Brylon Bristow, Hayden Robertson, and Serenity Runnels, and his fur babies, Gabby, Izzy, and Emmee.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Brooke Sutterfield, and stepfather, Richard Lott.

Celebration of life services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, March 6, 2023 at the Yanda & Son Funeral Home Chapel.
