Susan Mercedes Ellerbee

Susan Mercedes Ellerbee, age 71, died on Monday, April 17, 2023 at her home in Yukon, OK, from amytrophic  lateral sclerosis (ALS).  She was born on September 20, 1951, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the youngest child of Daniel Richard Posten and Eunice Bertha (Tucker) Posten.

Susan retired from nursing in 2016 after a career that included hospital staff nursing, clinical educator and teaching at various universities. Her primary focus was maternal-child nursing. She was one of the first faculty hired at Oklahoma City University/St. Anthony's School of Nursing (now Kramer School of Nursing}.  Susan taught undergraduate and graduate courses at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Nursing and University of Oklahoma College of Nursing. Before her retirement, Susan was Program Director for the Baccalaureate program at OU College of Nursing. After retiring, Susan volunteered at the Mabel C. Fry Library in Yukon, Oklahoma.

Susan earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Tulsa, a master's degree in nursing from the University of Oklahoma and a PhD from the University of Utah. She was a member of the American Nurses' Association, Association of Women's Health and Neonatal Nursing (AWHONN), International Lactation Consultant Association, and Sigma Theta Tau (an honorary nursing association).

Hobbies included needlework, reading and genealogy. Susan considered being a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as one of her greatest achievements.  She served as an officer of the Fort Reno Chapter for several terms.

Susan leaves behind her husband of 35 years, Jerry L. Ellerbee; sons, Jeremy D. Ellerbee and Jason T. (Niki) Ellerbee; sister, Penny Becker; brother, Terry L. Posten, and seven nephews and nieces.

Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Friday, April 21, 2023 at the funeral home. Viewing will be held at 9:00 a.m., prior to the Celebration of Life service at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 22, 2023 at the Yanda & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Yukon, OK. Interment will follow at the Yukon Cemetery.
