Thomas "Tom" Eugene Mangus, Jr.

Thomas E. Mangus, Jr., of Yukon, OK, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love and music. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer Mangus; son Greg Mangus and his wife Katie, along with their son Everett of Edmond, OK; son Drew Mangus and his wife Rhema of Red Lodge, MT; siblings Robert and Violet Mangus, Pam and Ed Malaske, Debra and Kenny Waldschmidt, and Kenneth Mangus; niece Amber Mangus; and nephew Richard Wood.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, Thomas E. Mangus, Sr.; mother and stepfather Carol and Richard Wood; and brother William Mangus.

A proud graduate of Midwest City High School (1971) and the University of Central Oklahoma (1975) with a degree in Music Education, Tom later earned a Master's degree from UCO in 1978. He dedicated 47 years to music education, teaching instrumental music at various institutions including Big Cabin, Maud, Crescent, NEO A&M College, Miami, Mustang, the University of Central Oklahoma, Bridge Creek, and Minco. He taught instrumental music to all ages from 5th grade through college at various times, specializing in brass instruments. Tom, always known as "Mr. Mangus," inspired thousands of students to love music. An accomplished French horn player, he performed with the Oklahoma Community Orchestra, Cimarron Wind Quintet, Crossings Church Orchestra, and the Oklahoma City Horn Choir. His commitment to helping students excel in music was his focus and passion. In addition, he was skilled in carpentry and technology.

Tom married Jennifer Bell on July 29, 1978, in Oklahoma City. Also an educator, they taught together in several schools. They had two sons, Greg in 1982 and Drew in 1987. Both sons graduated from Mustang High School, where Tom was their band director. Tom's passion for music inspired them to follow him into music professions. Greg has been a band director and is currently a marching music and drill designer. Drew is a horn player and performed in the West Point Army Band for 10 years. Their wonderful wives are also a special part of the family and its love of music.

Tom was a loving son, brother, attentive husband, and the best father and grandfather. He was deeply involved with his sons' sports, church, and other activities growing up. He also loved spending time with his grandson Everett, teaching him about music, chess, and building things in the backyard.

Tom will be forever loved and always remembered for his patience, kindness, dedication, and inspirational teaching. Play on…

Celebration of life services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 31, 2024 at the Yanda & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Yukon, OK.
