Todd Raymond Young

Todd Raymond Young, beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, grandfather, friend and Marine veteran, fought a hard, grueling battle for three and a half years against cancer until Saturday, May 25, 2024 when he passed away.  While sleeping in his home in Yukon, Oklahoma, his soul realized his body had fought long enough and left his tired, cancer-scared body and continued on to Heaven.  Todd was born to John and Cynthia Young on February 10, 1969 at Oakland Naval Hospital in Oakland, California. Above his bed is a sign that says, "Give it to God and go to sleep." and that is what he did Saturday morning. Marines will tell you Todd is now guarding the gates of Heaven with all the other Marines that God called up before him.

In 1986, Todd joined the United States Marine Corps.  He spent the next years as a highly skilled Marine Scout Sniper in fieldcraft and marksmanship, and delivered long-range precision fire from concealed positions in support of combat operations. As he transitioned to life after his Marine service, he became a paramedic, then a police officer and then started a long career in commercial transportation with Steven's Trucking.

Todd is the proud father of Matthew, 32, and Robert 30.  Todd married the love of his life, Amy Brooks Young, in July of 2010 and they have one young son, Cole who is 10.

He loved having his family together from his son Matthew and his fiancé Candice, to son Robert and his wife Mikayla, and his youngest son, Cole who still lives at home with his wife Amy.  Matthew and Robert sent Todd into his "Poppy" grandfather era with Oakley, Linlee, Avah, Layla, Avabelle, and baby Todd. He loved every minute of being a grandfather.  He loved his nieces and nephew, Emma and Olivia Burrell, Hannah and David Young.  He enjoyed time with his brother, John Young and his wife, Andrea as well as time with his little sister, Amanda Young, as well as many cousins and loving family members in Iowa.

Todd is preceded in death by his mother, Cynthia Young, his brother, David Young and by both sets of grandparents.

Todd was well loved by his wife's side of the family as well.  He considered Amy's sister and her husband, Amanda and Bradley Jewell, as his family along with their two children, Carson and Lana Jewell. Todd was well loved by Amy's school family of Independence Intermediate and Yukon Public Schools.  Many students of YPS looked up to Todd as a true warrior, someone that exhibited what it meant to show courage, get up and make your day the best it can be regardless of challenges and how kindness is a magnet for good.

Todd will be remembered for his kindness, his ability to make anyone feel at ease and his humor. Todd will be remembered as being an avid dog rescuer and his work to make Oklahoma a better place for unwanted and abused dogs.  Todd will be remembered for sharing his cancer battle and how his faith and determination carried him through.

Rest in pain free peace, Marine.  Semper Fi Marine.  Rest in peace beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Todd fought for his wife Amy, his sons Matthew, Robert, and Cole, his friends, his family, his dogs, his life.  He wanted to live more than anything in the world. Through his courageous battle, he has shown how to fight with unwavering positiveness, humor, steely reserve, kindness, grit, and optimism.  He has shown us that though cancer is a terrible thief, it cannot take someone's will away.  He has thousands of prayer warriors across the country thanks to his incredible family and friends that shared the journey with him.

A viewing for family and friends will be Wednesday, May 29 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Yanda and Son Funeral Home,1500 West Vandament Ave., Yukon, Oklahoma.

A celebration of life service in honor of Todd will be held Thursday, May 30 at 10:00 am at the Yanda and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Yukon.  A link to the live stream of the service is available under service information.
