Virginia Lavon Cook

Virginia Lavon Cook, 85, was born July 2, 1940 in Los Angeles, CA and lived in Northern California most of her life (Napa and Sacramento). She passed away on June 1, 2026 in Yukon, OK.

She was an interpreter for the deaf students at Napa Valley Unified School District, then an Engineering Administrator at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento. She also fostered deaf/handicapped children and adults.

Virginia had a love for nature which included spending time at her cabin in the mountains as well as gardening. Neighbors, on their evening walks, either at home or at the cabin, would stop to compliment her on her flowerbeds and ask her for advice on her roses. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also had a group of girlfriends “The Belmont Girls.” from Belmont High whom she enjoyed travelling and spending time with. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and you never knew what was going to come out of her mouth next. She lived the last year of her life in Yukon, OK in the home of her daughter, Barbara, and enjoyed the garden, being outside, and the occasional Braums drive-thru for an ice cream cone and a drive in the country.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Thelma Freeman; brothers, Delwin Freeman and Larry Freeman; and grandson, Scott Thomas Enarson.

Virginia is survived by her sister, Viola Ruth Tovar and husband Gus Tovar of Redmond, Oregon; daughters, Alice McKay and husband David McKay of El Dorado Hills, CA, and Barbara Davola and friend Cass Pujol of Yukon, OK, and honorary daughter Julie Nicholls of Morehead City, NC; grandchildren: Dillon Enarson of Yukon, OK, Lauren Deppen and husband Chase of Austin, TX, Lukas Hannemann and wife Julia of Sacramento, CA, Ellie McKay of El Dorado Hills, CA, Taylor McKay and wife Katelyn of Sacramento, CA and Nerissa Miller, wife to late grandson Scott Enarson; nephews, Shawn Freeman and wife Vicki of Piedmont, OK and Brian Tovar and wife April of Redmond, OR; nieces, Kimberly Young and husband Brian of Orange, CA and Trisha Oppenheim and husband Chris of Petersburg, AK; and great-grandchildren, Josiah Miller and Isaiah Enarson, both of Firestone, CO, and Brooks and Noah McKay of Sacramento, CA.
