Virginia Verlean Lowell

Our loving mother and granny, Virginia Lowell, joined her many, many friends and family in Heaven on August 19th, 2024.  She turned 84 years old on July 14th, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Brice; parents Raymond and Lillie Mae Hughes; two brothers, Eugene and Jimmy Hughes; one sister and brother-in-law, Jerry and Shirley Johnson; nieces, LeeAnn Johnson and Rhonda Skaggs, and nephew, Butch Johnson. Also preceding her in death was her puppy and best buddy Sassy and numerous grandpuppies.

She is survived by three daughters: Tammy Bradshaw and husband Jay of Oklahoma City, OK; Shelly Rovira of West Haven, UT, and Cindy Horton of Yukon, OK; five grand-children: MacKenzie Bradshaw of Yukon, OK,  Joshua Rovira and wife Mickelle of West Haven, UT,  Katie Campbell of Norman, OK, JJ Bradshaw and wife Erin, of Camas, WA, and Cody Bradshaw of Norman, OK; seven great grand-children:  Ryder Rovira, Sydney Bratcher, Avery Bradshaw, Lily Campbell, Abby Bradshaw, Annika Campbell, and AJ Bradshaw, and one great-great grandchild, Kipling "Kip" Bratcher. Additional survivors include 5 grandpuppies: Lucie (Granny's Protector"), Ms. Ellie, Maverick, Ranger, and Shep, and one grandcat Sassi.

Virgina was born July 14, 1940, in Butler, OK. She was diagnosed with Polio at the age of 6 and spent many weeks in the hospital in Oklahoma City.  She started school in Arapaho with braces on her legs, but never let that get her down or keep her from accomplishing many wonderful things in her lifetime. She married Don Horton in 1956 at the age of 15 and set off to travel the US and Canada with Roy Horton Custom Harvesters.  Together, she and Don had three daughters.  They divorced after 13 years, and she set off to start a new life for herself and her girls. In 1974, she met pilot Brice Lowell where she was working as a receptionist at Aircraftsman/AAR at Will Rogers Airport.  They were perfect for each other.  In 1976, they married, and a new adventure began.

In 1978, Brice changed occupations, and they moved with Cindy to Shoshoni, WY.  At some point, she decided that she would become a mud logger too and off she went. Her next adventure would be something she had wanted since she was very young.  She went back to beauty school and got a Wyoming Cosmetology License and opened "The Best Little Hairhouse in Wyoming" where she had quite the clientele – too many characters to name here. She made many, many lifelong friends while in Shoshoni, but she wanted to be closer to her kids and "home".  In 1985, she and Brice decided to move back to Oklahoma and set up home in Elk City where Brice continued to work in the oil business.  From there, they went to Weatherford and then back to Oklahoma City, where it all began for them. Brice passed away in 2008 and she moved to Yukon for her next adventure.  She was the neighborhood "granny" of the "cool-de-sac" where she met some unbelievable and wonderful friends who were there for her until her passing.  We thank them for all the love, care, and friendship they gave to our mom.  We love you all for being there for mom and her "girls". We will remember at Halloween for her pumpkin carving parties and her OKC Thunder cave for basketball games and Milwaukee's Best Light Beer. She loved OU Football, Country Music, and a good card game with her family and friends. Virgina will be sorely missed as we carry on a legacy that will be remembered for generations to come.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, August 24th  at the Yanda and Son Funeral Home Chapel, Yukon, OK.
