Wanda Ann Black

Wanda Ann (Bond) Black, age 76, of Yukon, Oklahoma, passed away on April 14, 2025. She was born on November 13, 1948, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to Elmer and Iva (Rawls) Bond. Wanda lived in Wiggins, Mississippi until 2004 when she and Mike moved to Yukon, Oklahoma after both retired from the Mississippi Public School Education System.

Wanda was raised in the farming community known as "The Big Level". She had many wonderful memories of being raised in Big Level with her brothers, cousins and extended family. During her high school years in Wiggins, she played basketball and worked at the Frosty Mug. Additionally, she was a member of the "Perkettes" dance team in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College band. Later she worked at the Pickle Factory where she met the love of her life, Mike and then graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi.

On August 17, 1968, Wanda married Mike. Together, they shared over five decades of love and dedication. She exemplified the virtues of a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and lived a life rooted in her Christian faith. Wanda was loving, sweet to the core and beautiful inside and out. Her life was a testament to both strength and grace.

A career educator, Wanda dedicated most of her professional life to teaching first grade at Stone Elementary School. Generations of children in Stone County will remember her as someone who loved and cared for them, and her legacy as an educator lives on in the lives she touched and the teachers she mentored.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Iva Bond, and her brother Olson Bond.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Mike "Coach" Black, her brother Willard Bond and his wife Elaine, her daughters Trudy (Kenny) Smith and Megan (Britt) Rose, her grandchildren Regan (Caleb) Osborn, Blaine Roark, Braden Rose, Tate Rose, and her precious great-grandchildren Shepherd Joseph and Iva Louise. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Wanda was a treasured friend to many and loved by all who knew her. She had a servant's heart and nothing made her happier than being surrounded by her family. She was known to sneak money to her grandchildren on their way out the door, and for gathering everyone around the dining room table to play Phase 10 at holidays. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Wanda's memory to "First Baptist Church, Yukon - Project 2.0."

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at Yanda & Son Funeral Home from 5 pm - 8 pm, and her funeral will be Thursday, April 17 at 2 pm at First Baptist Church, Yukon. Graveside will follow at Frisco Cemetery in Yukon.
